Accessibility Services

Here’s the services, technology and supports we offer to make sure the library supports everyone‘s needs. Not seeing your needs here, or looking for something else that would help? Let us know.

Services for those with mobility concerns

  • Parking – Handicap accessible parking is located in our service parking lot located to the northeast of our entrance
  • Building Entrance– The entrance to the library features no steps and automatic doors
  • Elevator — On the outside of the building along Lake Avenue (the downtown side of the building), there is an elevator that can take you into the first-floor lobby. The lobby has a second elevator to take you into the building’s second floor.
  • Wheelchair Accessible Catalog and Computer – The Library has a computer that a wheelchair user can use. This computer also has magnification software and a keyboard with larger letters for use by someone who may be visually impaired.
  • Digital library resources – Need books, movie, comics or other media that you can get from home? Check out our digital materials.

Assistive Services

  • Retrieval of Library Items – books, periodicals, DVDs, CDs, and so. Just ask!
  • Specialized materials
    • Large print books
    • Audiobooks (on CDs, Playaways, and digital)
    • Captioned DVDs
    • Digital audiobooks, e-books and magazines through Wisconsin’s Digital Library or its app, Libby
    • Digital audiobooks, e-books, music, movies, graphic novels, comics, TV shows and more through hoopla
    • Digital comics and graphic novels through Comics Plus
    • Braille Books
    • Access to online learning through Badgerlink
  • LEAP (Library eBook Accessibility Program) – available through Wisconsin’s Digital Library. Materials which can be read with computers, assistive reading devices, braille printers, and MP3 players
  • Digital collections that you can read without coming in to the library
  • Interlibrary Loan – Materials can be requested from libraries outside of the Lakeshores Library System. Contact the library for further information.
  • Home Delivery Services
  • Photocopying Assistance – Please inquire at the Adult Services Desk
  • Magnifier – The Library has a magnifier to enlarge text in the library.  We also have portable magnifiers available at the Adult Service Desk.
  • Sign Language Interpreters – A sign language interpreter is available with one week’s notice for any library program or service. For information, call the library’s business office at 262-636-9170.
  • Sensory Room – A private, quiet room full of calming toys and tools like bubble tanks, scent diffusers, tactile wall toys, sensory lights and more
